Yum food!!! GIVE ME FOOD!!! Oh sorry what am I saying!!! On 26th of March a person from Food For Thought came to tell us about what we should eat, what we shouldn't eat, what the food pyramid is, how much sugar drinks have in them and how to read the labels. Then on the 27th of March we went to the super market and we got a piece of paper that had the energy, the fat total, the sugars, the dietary fibre sodium and for the dairy products the calcium.
There are three groups on the food pyramid the what we eat most, what we eat sometimes and what eat least. In the food we eat most there are two parts the fruits and vegetables and breads and cereals. In the fruits and vegetables part the fruits and vegetables have to be fresh, frozen, dried, canned and juiced you should have 5+ a day and in the breads and cereals there is rice, pasta, crackers, popcorn but it has to be plain, bread and toast you should have 6 of them. In the food we eat sometimes there where also two parts meat and alternatives and milk and dairy products in the meat and alternatives there is fish you should have 1 to 2 of them and in the milk and dairy products there is yogurt, milk, cheese and vanilla ice cream but it has to be vanilla ice cream. In the food we eat least it is lollies, ice cream, chocolate and muffins.
The person brought some drinks they where coke, v, e2, power Ade, lemon lime and bitter, chocolate milk, juice, milk and water we had to guess how much sugar they had in them the one that had the most was the lemon lime and bitter, then it was v, then coke, then juice, then e2, then chocolate milk, then power Ade, then milk and guess what water doesn't have any sugar.
We had to learn how to read the labels on the back of the packets, the labels were energy, fat total, sugars, dietary fibre, sodium and for the dairy products the calcium. The energy had to be the lowest amount, the sugars should be less than 10g, the fat total should be less than 10g, the dietary fibre should be more than 76g and the sodium should be less than 400mg.
When we went to the super market we had a sheet of paper and we had a group of 4 or 5 childern and then we had to go around the super market and write down how much each label had.
