Cycle Safety Skills

On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of April we had a cycle safety test. We did 5 activities. My favourite were Intersection and Cycle track.

The cycle track was my favorite part of the course. For the cycle track we had wooden boards to ride across with four tight corners and black felt lines on the corners to ride on. Once we had gone over the course we had to go over a sea saw and when you got to the top of the sea saw you need to stand on your pedals so you don't get hurt and go to the back of the line.

The Intersection was a four way street with four people at a time on each road and we pointed witch way we were going and worked out who went first, second, third and fourth. Before we went we checked with Counstable Garlend to see if it was right.

I think CycleSafety is pretty cool and I would like to do it again some day and do the Intersection and track most of all!

This is a writing test. Students were given 45 minutes to plan and draft a story recounting the best, or worst, thing that happened to them during Cycle Safety. The stories are assessed as 'draft writing' for how well they have been written for 'readers' understanding' and 'readers' interest'.

Readers' Understanding:

1. Grammar (making sense).
2. Accurate spelling.
3. Accurate punctuation
4. Background information (making sense).

Readers' Interest:

1. Writes about one main idea in detail at a time.
2. Uses descriptive language.
3. Uses language features (expressive language).
4. Uses personal comments.

Easter Is Coming!!!

                                                              Easter is coming up this weekend so we need to get 

organised and get all of the lollies and chocolate ready but candy and rabbits aren't the only meaning of Easter. Easter is the day Jesus died on the cross for us. Easter is also a long weekend but it will be the holidays by then .                 





  On Easter me and my family usually go camping at Kaiteriteri with my Nana, Poppa, Mum and Jessica in the caravan. On Easter morning there is loads of Easter eggs scattered around the floor.

All About me - Letting Go By Sarah

I am ten years old and I have long blonde hair and glasses. That's me! I like horse riding, rollerblading,swimming like a mermaid movies and eating food.I first learnt to ride horses at my mums friends farm. The second horse I rode was called Nayland comet. I've only ridden them three times but I'm obsessed with them . I also like to roller blade. One time I went with my mum and we fell over in the middle.  I like to eat and my favourite foods are water melon, cookies, pizza and Chinese food. My favourite movies are the Narnia Series The Water Horse and Water Ship Down

  This is the Peasants ,they are my favourite band. Here is some information about them. They are an Indi pop band from Garin College at Richmond. The first time I saw them was at our school and the second time was outside the Richmond Mall at Sundial Square

The Builders are Here!!! (sarah)

   Here at Stoke School room 11 has moved to room 09 and room10 has moved to the assembly hall. We have moved to different places because we are expanding our class rooms. Our school care taker has taken down the fuzzy blue wall paper and the white boards and we found some old black boards behind them.

   It took a while to get our desks to fit in the class but we eventually got them to fit in. Now that the desks fit we can carry on with our work except every now and then there are big bangs in the wall from the builders chipping away on the walls. If their banging to loud the teacher stops talking and we wait for it to stop.

  Rm 10 is in the hall as I said and they are doing quite well in there. They have an art stand for their white board and tables for their computers and for walls they have big red blue and grey pin boards on stands. We still have assemblys but its a little bit cramed in because we have our Whanau come to watch us.

Our School Vision (Sarah)

Stoke schools vision is to dream for students to achieve. We use WERE STOKED to remember we have responsibilities. There are three groups of values -Effort and determination -Thinking about others -Learning and improving. Our vision is that students will show lots of energy. Students will be activeand particapate in activities in the class room. Kia tu tonu supports students to risk exellence and get on with it.The school wants students to achive their best.

  Effort and determination is about putting effort in every thing you do. Energy is getting into it and playing with a group of people. Kia tu tonu is important because we all need to focus on our work and get into it. Excellence is neat work and listening. Network is important because if your is neat the reader cannot Read your work very well. Opportunities is about just taking your chances and giving every thing a go!

  Thinking about others is looking after the older and younger kids and helping them around the school. We also need look after our self  by keeping away from the dangerous things around us.

   Learning and improving is the third group in our vision.The values of seeking , thinking and e-learning helps students to be learners and improvers. The values of seeking teaches students to be creative and inventive. Thinking is very important if you want to be a active learner. E-learning is all around us. We need to be smart with technology. We need to learn how to use new tech easily.

   Stoke Schools vision is to help students to improve. It is important that we use our school vision to look after our school, teachers and students.

Stoke School ( sarah)

Stoke School is a primary school in Nelson New Zealand. Primary Schools are places for kids aged 5 to 11 or 12 to learn. The subjects are writing,reading,math,topic and spelling. There are three groups of values who help us. Students, teachers and whanau.

  The students job is to learn new things during school hours. they need to ask for help from the teachers and whanau when they need it. They also need to work on their writing and handwriting and to be determined to learn and put effort in every thing you do.We also need to help the younger children in the junior classes.

  The teachers job is to teach the children in the school and look after them in the school grounds. The staff are also for teaching things like reading recovery,hpp,multi lit and student teachers. Reading recovery is for children that need to learn how to read larger words and  have understanding . Hpp is another reading activities but year fives are trained to hep them to read.

  Whanau is your family eg, aunty's ,uncles  and grandparents. They are here to help every one around the school. They help us by coming on school trips and volunteering for teaching music, swimming and reading.We also have relieving teachers. Relieving teachers are for when your original teacher has other jobs to do or is sick. Swimming coaches are people who teach us how to back stroke breath stroke and free style. Trips are when the whole school goes to a beach and has a swim and a sausage and bread.

  Now I hope you know what Stoke School is . Its a place were lots of people come together to help children to learn.

House Challenge Day! (sarah)

On the fifteenth of February Stoke School had a house challenge. Our colours are Omaio Red,Marsden Blue,Nafatu Green and Songer Yellow.Each house has two different groups. My favourite part of the day was the pool challenge. I am in Omaio Red. My favourite part of the day was the challenge in the pool.

  For the pool activitie we used our School  pool and we had four horses from each team and I was one of them. We used big floating beds in the pool as transporters to the other side of the pool.We could take as may people as we wanted across at a time. We won that challenge! The worst challenge for me was the Obstacle course.In that course we had partners and one had a blind fold on and the other had to guide you around the obstacles. If you get to the other side of the course you get one point for your house. We also won that one. My second favourite activities was the scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt is were your group has to find out what the answers to the questions are. For some questions you would have run around the school to find out the answers. We won that challenge aswell!!

House Day

Every once in a while Stoke School has a house competition. There is Omaio, the red house, Ngawhatu, the green house, Songer, the yellow house, and Marsden, the blue house. I'm in the red house. Yesterday we had a House Fun Day. We got to have a tug of war. It was exciting.

You should have seen Miss Kemp when she was wearing a bee costum.  Man it was fun!  House day is cool but it's sad it's only on once a term.  I wish it was on every week because of the screaming and the yelling in my ears.

Once a term there is a thing called House Day.  There are 4 house groups Omiao is red, Songer is yellow, Nafatu is green and Marsden is blue.  I'm in Songer House.

The best part of House Day was all the noise  there were some people saying, "green will, green will, rock you", "Songer yellow!!!", "blue, blue blue blue!" and, "red stripes!"  It was loud!  Everybody wears there house group today.

It all starts after morning tea at Stoke School.  It is the first House Fun Day of the year.  On House Fun Day you dress yourself up in your house colour that the teachers gave us.  The house colours are red (Omaio), blue (Marsden), yellow (Songer) and green (Ngawhatu).  Ngawhatu won (the first year - 2010) and got their name engraved on a trophfy that was made especially.

On Wensday 15th Feb it was House Day.  We have four house colers red, blue,green, yellow.  House Day is when we play gams in the pool on the feald on the cort.  In the pool we did lilo relay races.  on the feald we did a scavenger Hunt and water relay.  On the cort we did a Blind Fold game.  My faverit one was the races in the pool.  after all the gams and Rellays we Had tug of war game all four Houses did tug of war.

I am in Omaio Red.  My favourite part of the day was the challenge in the pool.  The pool challenge was in our School pool and we had 4 horses from both teams and I was one of them.  We used big floating seats in the pool and we had to pull as many people as we wanted over to the other side of the pool.

Woah!  That was a blast!  Every term we have a House Day when the whole of Stoke School gets out and joins together as a big group.  After we join together we get into our 4 house groups.  Ngawhatu the green house, Omaio the red house, Marsden the blue house and songer the yellow house.  Im in the green house.  Everyone dressed up in there house colour so they could score points for thier house group.  My favourite part was when we did the scavenger hunt with Mr Logan.
