Cycle Safety!!!

On the 30th of March we had Cycle Safety after morning tea with constable Garlen. He was teaching us how to be safe on the road and what the new road rules were. He was also teaching us how we should wear our helmets and how we ride our bikes. On the 2nd of April constable Garlen put up an obstacle coarse for us to do.

To be safe on the road you have to follow the road rules you also have to watch out for the cars. You have got to know what the road rules are even the new ones. When you are going to go around the cars parked on the side of the road, you should pull out a bit more earlier then you normally would, and if the cars are parked a few meters apart then you pull out a bit more earlier then you normally would and go around the car, and then just stay out then when you pass the second car you go back in then that means if a car wants to pass you it want run you over because you just stay out and you don't go swerving around the cars.

This is how you should wear your helmet. It should not be mostly at the back because if you fall off you can damage your face, and if it's at the front too much you can damage you skull, you also should not wear it to the side because if you fall off you can damage your face and your skull. When you sit on your bike seat your feet should be on tiptoes. When you stand over the bar a the front you should be standing quite comfortable over it.

The obstacle coarse was basically what the road is like. You had to swerve around the cones, then you had to turn a corner and then another corner, then you had to go over a bumpy bit, then you went over a seesaw, then you went over a plank of wood which was the size of the white line, then you went over a triangle piece of wood which was kind of high it was meant to be a curb.

So in my ipinen you should be safe on the road and remember follow the road rules! It was a fantastic day!!!Tomorrow and Wednesday constable Garlen is doing it again with us. It is going to be so fun!!!

Food For Thought!!!

Yum food!!! GIVE ME FOOD!!! Oh sorry what am I saying!!! On 26th of March a person from Food For Thought came to tell us about what we should eat, what we shouldn't eat, what the food pyramid is, how much sugar drinks have in them and how to read the labels. Then on the 27th of March we went to the super market and we got a piece of paper that had the energy, the fat total, the sugars, the dietary fibre sodium and for the dairy products the calcium.

There are three groups on the food pyramid the what we eat most, what we eat sometimes and what eat least. In the food we eat most there are two parts the fruits and vegetables and breads and cereals. In the fruits and vegetables part the fruits and vegetables have to be fresh, frozen, dried, canned and juiced you should have 5+ a day and in the breads and cereals there is rice, pasta, crackers, popcorn but it has to be plain, bread and toast you should have 6 of them. In the food we eat sometimes there where also two parts meat and alternatives and milk and dairy products in the meat and alternatives there is fish you should have 1 to 2 of them and in the milk and dairy products there is yogurt, milk, cheese and vanilla ice cream but it has to be vanilla ice cream. In the food we eat least it is lollies, ice cream, chocolate and muffins.

The person brought some drinks they where coke, v, e2, power Ade, lemon lime and bitter, chocolate milk, juice, milk and water we had to guess how much sugar they had in them the one that had the most was the lemon lime and bitter, then it was v, then coke, then juice, then e2, then chocolate milk, then power Ade, then milk and guess what water doesn't have any sugar.

We had to learn how to read the labels on the back of the packets, the labels were energy, fat total, sugars, dietary fibre, sodium and for the dairy products the calcium. The energy had to be the lowest amount, the sugars should be less than 10g, the fat total should be less than 10g, the dietary fibre should be more than 76g and the sodium should be less than 400mg.

When we went to the super market we had a sheet of paper and we had a group of 4 or 5 childern and then we had to go around the super market and write down how much each label had.

Wave Rave!!!

SPLASH!!! On the 23rd of March my friend Toria had her birthday party at the Wave Rave. The Wave Rave is at the Aquatic Center every Friday in Summer. The Wave Rave starts at 7:00pm and finished at 9:00pm. It was a fantastic night!!!

Toria invited Georgia, Anna and Me but then Anna couldn't go because she was in Roturua with her family. At the Wave Rave the waves in the wave pool are bigger then they are every other day and in the lane pool they put up a obstacle coarse that we have to try and get over, only some people get over the obstacle coarse, at the end it is not stable and that's were people fall off.

We saw heaps of people that we knew there hear are the people that we saw Nikayla, Melissa, Amy, Jontee, Adam, Mattew, Brayden and Torias cousin Torin. We were aloud in all of the pools there even the adults spa.

Parents were not aloud to go they were only aloud to drop us off and pick us up. They did alot of activity's there one of the activity's was in the pool where you have swimming lessons and it was the best and longest handy stand, if you won you got a prize and the other activity was jumping off the top of wave pools deep end and if yours was the best jump you also won a prize.

I had alot of fun at Toria's birthday hopfully I get in vited next year.

Things I Like!!!

I like reading, drawing and going on trips around the world.

My favourite authors are Jacqueline Harvey who writes the Alice-Miranda series and Stacy Gregg who writes the Pony Secrets.

The Alice-Miranda series is about a little girl called Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones. She is 8 years old and goes to a boarding school called Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for proper young ladies. Before she went to the school the principal never talked to anyone but because Alice-Miranda is so nice she talked to the principal and then the school changed. The Pony Club Secrets is about horses, Issie and her two friends Kate and Stella. Issie, Kate and Stella go to Issie's Aunty's place as much as they can, they do heaps of things there. In one of the books they are filming a tv show and in another one Issie horse gets stolen and she goes half way around the world to find him.

I also like drawing even though I'm not very good I still like it. I like to draw people and animals, I've got an animal book at home where I learn how to draw them some of them are really hard to draw but at lest I try. I also like when I'm drawing for it to be perfect.

In June or July we are going to Australia we have already got the tickets and everything we just have to get the saving money. It will kind of be a birthday present for me and my sister. We are going with some friends of ours and are seeing my sisters friend who moved. I can't wait till we go.

So that is what I like. I like reading, drawing and going on trips around the world.

Builders Invading!!!

GET OUT OF THEIR WAY! THE BUILDERS ARE HERE! QUICK RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
Today the builders came to Stoke School to destroy two of the best classrooms, in the school to make it bigger and to make a deck in front of the senior classrooms 10 and 11. They will be here for six long weeks or more. They have put bight orange fences up so that we don't go in there to keep us safe, they have started taking out the wall in room 11, on the rest of the walls they are putting fire proof stuff. We can here banging from two classes away. They are making the classes go out to our cloak bays. Our school is so big now we have to have another classroom so Miss Norris is going to go in to room 9 and Mrs Meeks is going to be another new entrance class in room 4, we now have 220 children in the school now. The builders are going to do rooms 8, 9, 10 and 11. The teachers have shut all the doors in the coridoor so us students can't get in their way of their private, destuctive building.

Good morning new class!!!

On the 14th of March room 11 moved classes to room 9 and room 10 moved to the hall because room 10 and room 11 where getting rebuilt to a bigger size.

When they took out the whiteboards a chalkboard that was used in 1992 was still there, it still has the names on it for their reading. After they took off the whiteboards Shimya and I did a job for Mr Goad which was moving everything from his desk to the room 9 desk. Mr Logan was so jealous because he didn't get to have a desk.

We had to take off all the books in Mr Goads office in room 11 from the shelves and put them in Mr goads new office in room 9. It was a really difficult job even I couldn't bear it but at the end we eventually finished the job. It was easy packing the trolley and wheeling it but then getting it up the steps was hard and un- packing it was really hard.

On the 15th of march the staff were taking off the wallpaper because the builders come on Monday the 19th. When they were taking the wallpaper off their was a hole in the wall that went straight through the wall and Mr Macalpine (the care taker) put a picture of Mr Michener (the school principle) inside the hole and wrote DO NOT LOOK IN HERE!! Everyone thinks its a rat hole. Once they take the wallpaper off they are putting it on the ground like carpet. It took us a little while to get everything sorted because room 9 is a bit smaller than room 11 but Finally we get there! Their were people taking photos in every direction. Marcus and Jontee were taking photos of Shimya and Me all the time. I thought that I would get blind. We would tell them to go away, but they would not listen. BOYS! Don't know when to stop.

The boys drew angry faces on their hands  and put them through the wall. Moving to room 9 was crazy! On the 20th of March the builders had finished taking out the walls from room 10 & 11.
On that very day it was so noisy, from all the banging & smashing. All of the noise even made the wall vibrate & the shakey chairs rattle.

Every one felt crammed in the tiny room. The whole day was very exciting. It was a blast.

Water time!!

On the 8th of  March Nikayla, Amy, Olivia and Shimya went to the swimming inter-schools at Nayland pool to re-present Stoke School. It was a tremendous water blast. The 1st event was Freestyle, 2nd was backstroke then it was breath stroke. After the finals it was the Junior relays then it was the Senior relays. Nikayla came 1st in freestyle in the first heat and then she came 2nd in  the finals. Olivia came 4th in the 1st heats of freestyle but didn't go to the finals. Shimya came 3rd in freestyle but she didn't go through to the finals. In backstroke Olivia came 3rd for the 1st heats and Shimya came 4th in back stroke. Amy came last but unfortunately she didn't make it through to the finals. Better luck next time Amy. Then finally it was time for the Junior girls relay. Shimya's team had a splash of water fun as they crossed the finish line coming 2nd. They wouldn't have come 2nd if it weren't for 1 team being disqualified. Last but not least it was time for Nikaylas team the the Senior girls relay team. Nikayla's team was overjoyed after they had finished the race because they had come 4th. Stoke School did really good at the inter-schools. It was a spraytastic day.

Swim,Bike,Run and WIN!

Number 1 all of the tryathlets from Stoke School!

Swim, bike, run and WIN! On the 4th of March every year the Weetbix tryathalon comes to Nelson then travels around New Zealand. The Weetbix tryathalon is a fun event for your children bring your bike, running shoes, togs and yourself at Tahunanui at the cost of $35 a child. The first thing you do is the swim then you run up to your bike and go for a bike ride then you ride back to where you came in to get your bike and do the run. When you come to get your bike you dry your feet and put your shoes, socks, Weetbix top and your helmet on then walk your bike to the road and ride it 4km then you hop of your bike and do the run to the finish line to get your gold medal. If your school gets a certain amount of people then your school gets a free breakfast on the day and our school got the free breakfast which we could have before the tryathalon or after the tryathalon. After the tryathalon they have a meeting with everybody and give away free prizes. Some of the schools get some vouchers for P.E gear or go in the draw for a new playground our school is in the draw for the new playground. Their were 15,503 children their doing the tryathalon on the day but with the parents, grandparents, cousins and aunty's and uncles their were probably about 18,673. Their are people that are their that tell you what way to go and to make sure your safe. for the bike your on the road but they shut it of so its not dangerous, when you are doing the swim the water is not over your head and their are people in the water and on kayaks so it is totally safe. also in the water you wear a cap and every age have a different colour cap. You can do it by yourself or in a team. I did it by myself and so did Anna, Georgia and Julia, Toria did it in a team with Shimya. Everyone has a different number you have to write your number on your right arm and left leg. Their are people taking photos that go on to the Weetbix tryathalon website and when you cross the finish line they take a video of you and that also gets put on the website if you want to see yourself crossing the finish line you get a time at the end and that's the time that you look for on the website. You have to get up at 6:00am or 6:30am because your bikes have to be in the bike area at 8:15am so you have to kind of be their at 7:00am the Weetbix tryathalon starts at 9:00am. Their were 12 schools from Nelson. After the tryathalon every one from Stoke School had a sausage. It was a great day!!

Family Fun Night

Yesterday Stoke School had a family fun night a family fun night is when you bring your own dinner and do heaps of fun games. The games were the school parachute, the Tasman sports trailer, the swimming pool was open, the sand pit was open and you were aloud on the playground as well there was also a free sausage and ice block for the children. It started at 5:30pm and finished at 7:00pm. There was a grand opening for the new tiger truf that has just been put down.

The games that they did with the parachute were sharks and lifeguards and cat and mouse they made a tent as well. Sharks and lifeguards is when you pick two people to be lifeguards and two people to be sharks, the sharks go under the parachute and pull the legs of the people on the outside and the people that get pulled in call "lifeguard lifeguard" and the lifeguards try to pull them out. Cat and mouse is when you pick one cat and two mice and the cat has to try and find the mice under the parachute. In the swimming pool it was free time but you could hardly move because there were a lot of  people. The Tasman sports trailer had heaps of equipment to play with like basket balls, stilts, hula hoops, a tunnel, hopscotch and more. In the sand pit it was just making your own sand castles. It was cool to have some old students that used to go to Stoke School there and to meet up with them.

I am just going to go through what has been an awesome  at family fun night there was a water slide, the pool was open, the Tasman sports trailer was there, the parachute and the playground as well. We had a fantastic time at the family fun night. There was a grand opening for the tiger turf.

Sunny Nelson

Wind swooping
Round the house
Blowing everything down
SNAP!
Trees breaking
BANG!
Falling trees
Rain hitting the ground
Like fireworks
Big puddles
Soaking trees
Everything wet.
