Brothers in Arms

By Teach

Australians and New Zealanders are like brothers. We have always been on one another's side when 'outsiders' have given the other any trouble. We also like to outdo each other whenever we get the chance.

After reading the post 'The Australia-New Zealand Team', I just had to post short video highlights, of the deciding game in the 2012 National (Australian) Basketball League between the Wildcats (Australia) and the Breakers (New Zealand). A little bit of Anzac spirit in a game played last night, Anzac Day eve.

Pre-game Comments
  • '...overall the Wildcats lead the head to head record with the Breakers 16-14 (NBL website).'
  • 'The Perth Wildcats are the most successful team in the National Basketball League with 25 consecutive finals' (playoffs) appearances and 5 national championships (NBL website).'
  • "I just think it was a little bit arrogant the way they (the Breakers) carried on after the games (during the qualifying rounds) they won (Wildcats' coach before finals game #1).
  • "That's the way they are (the Breakers) - again at the end of the game Wilkinson (Breaker's starting player) decides to go and celebrate (Wildcats' coach after losing finals' game #1, 104-98).
  • From a coaching perspective it's going to be a huge advantage for us because they (the Breakers) have to fly over here (Australia), play and then fly back (to New Zealand). That's an advantage to us (Wildcats' coach before winning finals' game #2, 87-86).

  1. Good post Teach. I like the breakers beating the Wildcats, but I also like the fact that we share respect for each other on the world stage.
