Anzac Poppies

By Darlene

Poppies are flowers that have flaming red petals a little black centre. New Zealanders and Australians wear paper poppies every year on the 25th of April. The poppies are a symbol to honour and remember the soldiers that fought on that day in 1915 at Gallipoli in World War One. The soldiers that suffered and died.

Red poppies were chosen to be an Anzac Day symbol because it was the only flower that grew on the battlefield.

Auckland Blues rugby players wear Anzac Poppies.

I've learnt that honouring the soldiers who fought is very important to the people that lost their loved ones. A poppy helps you to remember the brave warriors of New Zealand and Australia. I give all my respect to the soldiers who have passed away and to the soldiers who have survived.

  1. Well written Darlene. Good choice of pictures. When you write that you give respect and all the world can read it, that is very powerful.
